What Is Perast Like?
Perast is a small village overlooking the Bay of Kotor. We were here in April and lucky to experience beautiful sunshine and warm weather.
Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, the water is crystal clear and tranquil with the occasional dolphin passing by. Tiny cobbled pathways and steps meander around Baroque stone buildings with terracotta rooftops.

Perast overlooks Montenegro’s most famous island, Our Lady of Rocks and has an incredibly rich history for such a small place. It is home to Baroque palaces, over a dozen churches and a maritime museum.

Restaurants sit on the water’s edge, serving platters of the most delicious cured meats, cheese, seafood, pizza, pasta and wine I have ever tasted.
We based ourselves here for our visit to the Bay of Kotor. We absolutely loved the peace, beauty and gorgeous views.
Tip: Perast is only a bus ride away from Kotor and is an ideal base if you prefer a more laid-back stay.
Hotels in Perast
Perast has a great selection of characterful boutique and luxury hotels. We came for our 25th wedding anniversary and were spoilt for choice.
I’ve curated a short list of the top hotels in Perast – all with excellent reviews. Some of the hotels are seasonal and prices are all higher in the summer peak season.

Vila Perast
Reviews 9.6 | Prices from £69 per night
Best for: quality and value
One of the best-value hotels in Perast, Vila Perast is a charming stone property that captures the character of this historic village.

It has its own private beach, restaurant, bar and welcoming hosts. Guests are picked up by golf cart from the carpark – a lovely touch in this car-free village.

Rooms are clean and comfortable and well-priced making Vila Perast an authentic stay without the luxury price tag.

Casa Vita Nova: 4 Star Apartments
Reviews 9.5 | Prices from £131
Best for: self-catering stays and spectacular views
This is where we stayed during our visit to Perast and we absolutely loved it. Our spacious apartment blended traditional stone features with stylish modern furnishings, creating a comfortable and characterful place to stay.

The gardens and pool area overlook the bay, providing spectacular views across the water and surrounding mountains. Our host, Ana, was incredibly friendly and helpful, and everything was spotlessly clean throughout our stay.

The only thing to note is that there are quite a few steps leading to the property, so it may not suit travellers with mobility issues. For us, however, it was one of the highlights of our trip.

Hotel Conte 4 Star
Reviews 9.4 | Prices from £78 per night
Best for: a central waterfront location
Conte is one of the most popular hotels in Perast. Set right on the picturesque main seafront square, in a protected heritage building – the former Home of Culture.
Rooms are spread across four blocks of beautifully renovated historic homes that were once part of an old palace, many with outdoor private seating areas overlooking the Bay of Kotor. We were very tempted to stay in this hotel as the rooms look gorgeous. Some even have a private jacuzzi.

The waterfront restaurant, which has indoor and outdoor seating, specialises in Adriatic fish and meat dishes with locally sourced ingredients, including oysters. We ate here for our anniversary and can confirm the food and service were wonderful.

Housed in a 18th-century Venetian palace, guests at the Heritage enjoy a seafront location, private sun loungers, a spa, swimming pool, restaurant and breathtaking views.
The waterside restaurant was our favourite of all in Perast.
Each of the elegantly decorated rooms combine historic character with stylish modern comforts. A memorable choice for couples celebrating a special occasion.
