The Bird – Stylish Boutique Hotel with Views over Bath

The Bird is one of Bath’s most colourful and characterful boutique hotels. Perched just above the city centre, it enjoys lovely views over the Recreation Ground and towards the historic skyline of Bath.

Unlike many of the city’s more traditional Georgian hotels, The Bird embraces a bold, contemporary style. Expect vibrant wallpaper, statement lighting and quirky design touches throughout the rooms and communal areas. It’s a refreshing contrast to Bath’s historic architecture while still feeling warm and welcoming.

The hotel’s restaurant and terrace are also very popular, particularly in the warmer months when you can sit outside with a drink and enjoy the views. Its location is ideal too – you can reach Bath’s main attractions, including the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey, in around a 10 minute walk.

This is a great choice if you’re looking for something a little different from the traditional Georgian guesthouses that dominate the city.

Perfect for: Couples looking for a stylish and slightly quirky boutique stay.

Eight – Boutique Hotel Just Steps from the Roman Baths

If location is your top priority, Eight is hard to beat. This stylish boutique hotel sits just a few minutes’ walk from Bath’s most famous attractions, including the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey.

The hotel occupies two historic Georgian buildings near Abbey Green, one of Bath’s prettiest and my favourite little square. Inside, the interiors combine the character of the historic building with modern design touches, creating comfortable and elegant rooms that feel both cosy and contemporary.

Guests particularly love the relaxed atmosphere and the excellent restaurant, which serves modern British dishes using locally sourced ingredients. With its central location, you can step straight out of the door and explore Bath’s cobbled streets, independent shops and historic sights without needing a car.

Because of its small size and prime location, rooms here can book up quickly – especially at weekends.

Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel – Luxury Hotel with Stunning Grounds

This is my favourite hotel for spa weekends with the girls. It’s a large 5 star hotel set in 7 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. Featuring an elegant historic building, large rooms and indoor and outdoor spa facilities. I love the outdoor heated pool and patio.

Almost every time I’ve been here, we’ve been upgraded and felt thoroughly spoilt during our stay.

It’s a 15 minute stroll through a lovely park from the city centre. Parking is free so ideal if you’re driving.

While the Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel is larger than some of Bath’s boutique townhouses, its elegant historic building, landscaped gardens and luxurious spa facilities give it the feel of a classic luxury boutique retreat.

No. 15 by Guesthouse – Bath’s Most Quirky Boutique Hotel

Located on Great Pulteney Street, we’ve walked past No.15 many times and plan to book a stay here soon. Known for its playful interiors and art-filled rooms, it features an underground spa in its historic vaults! Most properties in Bath have these vaults because of the way Bath was built and it’s fascinating what owners do with this unusual extra space.

Guests love the quirky details and free snack pantry.

The Gainsborough Bath Spa – Small Luxury Hotel next to the Roman Baths

I’ve added this hotel because it’s on my list of luxury hotels that I’d love to stay in. I keep looking out for the price to drop so I can try it out!

The Gainsborough offers a 5 star luxury experience within a historic building and a thermal spa pool that looks like the hot spring bath in the Roman Baths.

It’s the only hotel with direct access to the city’s natural thermal waters.

As you would expect from a hotel of this calibre – rooms feature private bathrooms with bathrobes, minibars and modern amenities and the restaurant has options for a la carte breakfast, lunch and dinner.
