🪄 Magical Bacalar

We stayed in Bacalar for 3 nights as part of a two-week Yucatan Peninsula road trip. Bacalar is home to the stunning Lagoon of Seven Colours and has earned ‘Pueblo Magico’ (Magic Town) status by the Mexico Tourism Board.

The landscape is unspoiled and deeply calming – it’s hard not to fall for Bacalar’s peaceful, laid-back vibe and natural beauty.

Why Stay at Aires Hotel Bacalar?

We chose Aires after reading glowing reviews on Booking.com – and it absolutely lived up to the praise. Its ideal location, just a short walk from both the lagoon and the town centre sealed the deal for us.

Honestly, we didn’t want to leave this tropical little paradise.

Aires Organic Design

The hotel’s organic design immediately evokes a feeling of serenity. Open walkways, earthy tones, and natural textures blend seamlessly with the lush surroundings.

A beautiful nature-filled setting – lush palm tree filled views, flowering plants, and birdsong all around.

Every room, pathway and balcony feels like it’s part of the landscape, connecting you with nature and enhancing a feeling of inner peace.

Suites at Hotel Aires Bacalar

From the moment we woke up – rested from a peaceful night’s sleep in a super comfy bed – we felt relaxed.

Morning sunshine filtered through the the palm trees onto our balcony as we sipped our coffee – gently rocking in our hammock.

🌟 A real highlight: we were delighted to have a Collared Aracari (toucanet) visit our balcony each morning at sunrise.

Rooms offer either a garden or lagoon views. We had a garden view and loved being surrounded by greenery and birdsong.

Room Facilities

  • Spacious and airy with minimalist design
  • Daily housekeeping
  • Comfy beds with earplugs provided for a sound sleep
  • Sofa bed, air-conditioning, mini bar, and tea/coffee making facilities
  • No TVs in rooms – deliberately, to help guests disconnect
  • Locally made natural toiletries that smell divine

Breakfast at Aires

A tasty breakfast is included and made fresh to order with local ingredients. The menu catered for all our tastes and was delicious. I especially loved the limitless coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. It’s the perfect start to a slow Bacalar morning.

Relaxing Areas Around Aires

Guests can unwind in the shady garden, cool off in the small pool, or take in the views from the rooftop terrace.

We ended each evening up on the rooftop with a drink in hand, watching the sky change colour. There’s no bar, but you’re welcome to bring your own drinks.

The many hammocks dotted throughout the property offer perfect shady spots to read, doze, or just listen to the breeze rustling the palms.

Aires Hotel Services

The hotel can help arrange local tours, activities, and taxis.

Popular options include:

  • Sunrise or sunset paddleboarding
  • Sailing trips on the lagoon
  • Visits to local cenotes

The staff were incredibly kind and went out of their way to help us plan activities and make the most of our time.

Local Facilities

The hotel is within easy walking distance of Bacalar’s restaurants, bars, and shops.

We especially loved:

  • A local Mayan restaurant with traditional dishes
  • The amazing taco place across the road (don’t miss it!)
  • A fun night out at La Catrina, a local salsa bar serving delicious cocktails, food, and full of friendly energy

🧳 Perfect For:

This hotel is perfect for couples, solo travellers, or anyone seeking a relaxing, mid-range boutique stay near Bacalar Lagoon. It offers comfort, nature, and genuine hospitality in equal measure.
