We love a multi-centre holiday. Some people think that you have to travel for weeks to have a meaningful travel experience but that just isn’t true. One to two weeks is plenty of time to have an incredible adventure.
The best thing we find about multi-centre holidays is that they feel longer!
Take a look through this blog detailing some of our favourite multi-centre trips to find some inspiration and ideas for your next adventure.

Introduction to Multi-Centre Holidays
If you’re the kind of traveller who wants to squeeze every last drop out of your holiday leave, a multi-centre trip might just be your dream solution. Why stick to one place when you can experience ancient cities, tropical beaches, mountain adventures, and cultural treasures – all in one holiday?

Multi-centre trips are ideal for 1 – 2 week getaways, letting you combine two or more destinations into one unforgettable journey. We find that a multi-centre trip feels longer than one destination holidays.
It’s a scientific fact that when you experience lots of new things your brain feels like time is longer! (Tbh – I read this in the context of solitary confinement – but you get the gist!)
Whether you’re craving the ruins of Petra and the deserts of Wadi Rum, a mix of Italy’s historic cities, or a Belizean island escape after exploring Mexico’s Mayan ruins, there’s a combo to suit your travel dreams.
In this post, I’m sharing 6 inspiring multi-centre itinerary ideas that are perfect for DIY travellers who love planning their own adventures. Each trip is completely doable in 1-2 weeks, and I’ve included tips on what to see, how to get around, the best time to go and links to more specific blogs if you want to delve deeper.

Italy Multi-Centre Trip: Pisa, Florence, Bologna, Verona, Venice (7-10 Days)
Italy is perfect for a multi-centre trip because it is all so easily accessible by train. You can fly into Pisa airport, take the train across and fly home from Venice. This can also mean cheaper flight tickets!
Planning a multi-centre trip to Italy is a brilliant way to experience each city’s character, Italy’s rich history, stunning architecture and of course mouthwatering food. The trains are regular and cheap and the views are lovely as you travel through the countryside.

Italy is one of my favourite European countries. This itinerary combines 2 trips that we have done and adds a bonus city, which I have yet to see – Bolagna. Italy is where I discovered my love of opera and we’ve enjoyed some inspirational cookery classes too.

Italy Itinerary
🗺️ Suggested Route:
Fly into Pisa → Florence → Bologna→ Verona →Venice→ Fly out of Venice
- Pisa (1 day): Pisa is the ideal entry airport for this itinerary. Depending on what time your plane lands, you might want to stay one or two nights here. Snap that classic Leaning Tower photo and explore the historic Piazza dei Miracoli. Most people only visit Pisa for a day trip but we enjoyed having the Tower of Pisa area to ourselves in the evening.
- Florence (2-3 days): Dive into Renaissance art and the best but most expensive gelato! Climb the Duomo, walk across the Ponte Vecchio and take a trip to the Tuscan countryside for a cookery lesson or wine tasting trip.
- Bologna (1-2 days) Climb the Asinelli Tower for city views, stroll under the UNESCO-listed porticoes, sample local specialities like tagliatelle al ragu and mortadella.
- Verona (1-2 days): Do the Romeo and Juliet trail
(see my guide for details!), explore the ancient Roman arena or even watch an opera there, and enjoy the laid-back, romantic vibe. I adore Verona – it’s my favourite Italian city so far.
- Venice (2-3 days): Glide along hidden canals, get lost in the backstreets, and soak up the magic of St. Mark’s Square.
- Optional day trips: Consider adding some coastal towns of the Cinque Terre, or the Chianti wine region from Florence if you have extra time.

🚆 Getting around: Travel is easy by train – Italy’s rail network is affordable, fast, and scenic.
📆 Best time to go: Spring (April-June) or early autumn (September-October) for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.
💼 Perfect for: Art lovers, foodies, and first-time Italy visitors wanting a rich cultural trip.
Mexico & Belize Multi- Centre Trip: Cenotes, Ruins & Caribbean Island Life (12-14 Days)
This will be our next trip! I have planned out the route and I will have to get back to you about the details.

This adventurous 2-week itinerary combines Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula with the laid-back charm of Caye Caulker, Belize – perfect for DIY travellers craving culture, nature, and island time all in one trip. Think Mayan ruins, turquoise lagoons, snorkelling with stingrays, and chilled-out beach towns.

Mexico Belize Itinerary
🗺️ Suggested Route:
Fly into Cancun → Playa del Carmen → Bacalar → Caye Caulker (Belize) → Tulum → Fly out of Cancun
Mexico ADO bus makes Mexico easy to travel across with little expense. Although this area of Mexico along the Riviera Maya is famous for its amazing all-inclusive hotels, we will be staying in a mixture of apartments and mid-range hotels.
- Playa del Carmen (5 days): We’ve chosen here for our first base because my daughter – who has already travelled across Central America – says Playa del Carmen is very central with easy access to Chichen Itza (Wonder of the World), cenotes and Cozumel for a day trip. It has a laid back vibe and great street food and nightlife.
- Bacalar (2 days): A stunning freshwater lagoon with shades of blue you didn’t know existed – the “Lagoon of Seven Colours.” We have booked a sailing tour and we’re hoping to borrow the hotel kayaks for a sunrise trip to admire the lagoon when it’s most peaceful.
- Caye Caulker, Belize (5 days): Cross into Belize and take the boat to this car-free island paradise. We’re planning a snorkelling trip to one of the best coral reefs on earth. As beautiful as the Great Barrier Reef but in a smaller area so less travelling. My daughter says Caye Caulker is amazing!
- Tulum (2 days): End your trip with beachside Mayan ruins, world-class cenotes, and boho vibes. Great for shopping and final relaxation before heading home. I’ve heard mixed reviews about Tulum so we’ll have to wait and see!

More:
🚐 Getting around: A mix of ADO buses, shared shuttles, and water taxis makes this route simple and budget-friendly.
📆 Best time to go: December to April for dry weather and calm seas. However, we will be going in July. This does mean seaweed season in some areas but it is cheaper and there should be less crowds.
💼 Perfect for: Adventurous people and anyone seeking a mix of culture, nature and island life.

From the laid-back island of Koh Samui, the breathtaking landscapes of Khao Sok National Park and vibrant Bangkok – this 12-14 day trip is ideal for travellers who want variety without the stress.

This multi-centre holiday route is suggested by many travel agents. We organised and booked this itinerary DIY style. We had the most fantastic adventure and it was the best combination of relaxation, nature and culture.
Thailand Itinerary
Suggested Route:
Fly into Bangkok → Fly to Koh Samui → Ferry & drive to Khao Sok → Fly back to Bangkok → Fly home
- Koh Samui (6-7 days): Relax on white-sand beaches, snorkel around nearby islands, meet elephants, visit waterfalls and temples, or just unwind in a beachfront hammock.
- Khao Sok National Park (2-3 days): Head inland for a once-in-a-lifetime stay in a jungle treehouse or floating bungalow. Go kayaking on Cheow Lan Lake, spot wildlife and hike through rainforest trails.
- Bangkok (3-4 days total): End your trip in Thailand’s electric capital. Visit the Grand Palace, explore local markets, cruise the Chao Phraya River, and dive into the street food scene.

✈️ Getting around:
- Fly Bangkok → Koh Samui
- Ferry to Donsak Pier + private transfer or drive to Khao Sok
- Fly Surat Thani → Bangkok for return
📆 Best time to go: January to March offers the best weather across all regions in this itinerary. However, because Koh Samui is in dry season in the British summer holidays it is ideal for a family summer holiday too.

Corfu & Albania Multi-Centre Trip: Two Countries, One Dreamy Ionian Escape (14 Days)
Looking for a sunny, off-the-beaten-path European adventure? This 2-week itinerary combines the lush Greek island of Corfu with the stunning beaches and historic charm of southern Albania. Think crystal-clear waters, delicious Balkan and Mediterranean food, and easy travel between destinations.

Albania Corfu Itinerary
🗺️ Suggested Route:
Fly into Corfu → Ferry to Sarandë → Ksamil → Ferry back to Corfu → Kassiopi
- Sarandë, Albania (3 days): Take the short ferry from Corfu to this lively Albanian coastal town. Walk the promenade, try fresh seafood. Rent a car and visit the Blue Eye and ancient town of Gjirokaster.
- Ksamil, Albania (4 days): Just 20 minutes from Sarandë, this beachy haven is famous for its white sand and clear waters – the Maldives of Europe. Spend your days swimming, paddleboarding, exploring hidden coves and visit the UNESCO-listed Butrint ruins nearby.
- Kassiopi, Corfu (7 days): Head back to Greece for a week in this charming northeast village. With its harbour views, Byzantine castle, nearby beaches, and relaxed tavernas, Kassiopi is the perfect spot to unwind.

🚢 Getting around:
- Corfu ↔ Sarandë ferry (approx. 45 minutes)
- Local taxis or car hire for Sarandë – Ksamil transfers. I suggest hiring a car because it’s much cheaper.
- Public buses or rental car on Corfu
📆 Best time to go: May to early October – expect warm weather and perfect swimming conditions. If you can avoid July and August because Ksamil is very busy at this time of year.
💼 Perfect for: Anyone looking to combine two countries in one affordable and scenic beach holiday.
Jordan: Ancient Cities, the Dead Sea & Desert Adventures (7 – 10 Days)
Jordan is perfect for a short but unforgettable multi-centre trip. This itinerary takes you from bustling Amman to the shores of the Dead Sea, through the ancient wonder of Petra, into the cinematic desert of Wadi Rum, and finishes with a taste of the Red Sea in Aqaba.

Jordan Itinerary
🗺️ Suggested Route:
Amman → Dead Sea → Petra → Wadi Rum → Aqaba → Return to Amman
- Amman (2 nights): Start in Jordan’s capital. Visit the Citadel, Roman Theatre, and explore the markets and cafes of Rainbow Street.
- Dead Sea (1 night): Float in the salty waters and enjoy a mud bath at one of the shoreline resorts. A peaceful and scenic stop.
- Petra (2 nights): Spend a full day hiking across the ancient Nabataean city – start at the back entrance next to Little Petra, see the Monastery and the iconic Treasury (wonder of the world?). Optional Petra by Night experience.
- Wadi Rum (1- 2 nights): Stay in a desert camp and take a jeep tour through the dramatic red-sand landscape. Stargazing here is unreal – although watch out for the earwigs! I would suggest 2 nights here because 1 was not enough.
- Aqaba (1-3 day): Stop for a swim or snorkel over the coral reefs in the Red Sea, then enjoy seafood and sunshine before the return journey. Or alternatively, spend a few days on the beach to relax after your epic adventure.
Back to Amman: Return for your final night or to connect to your outbound flight.

🚗 Getting around: Rent a car or book private transfers for ultimate flexibility. Jordan’s roads are easy to navigate and distances are manageable.
📆 Best time to go: March to May or September to November for warm days and cool nights.
💼 Perfect for: History lovers, photographers, and adventure travellers who want big experiences in a short time.
