How to Book a DIY Holiday to Okrug Gornji and Split

✈️ Flights

There are loads of flights from the UK to Split with many airlines, including EasyJet, Ryan Air, Wizz Air and TUI, from airports around the country, so prices are generally competitive.

We booked with EasyJet.

🌟 Tip: If you know when EasyJet are releasing their flights, be ready to book at 6am to book the cheapest flights.

If you missed this window, search for flights on Skyscanner:

🏩 Accommodation

You can find a wide selection of accommodation for Ciovo on booking sites like Booking.com, Airbnb and Expedia.

Prices range from around £500 for an apartment to £3,500 for entire villas for 7 nights.

We booked a luxury apartment in Okrug Gornji with Booking.com at a great rate. The apartment was exceptional and was only £1200 for the week.

We also booked an apartment with Booking.com in Split for 3 nights. Again there is loads of choice from budget accommodation to luxury hotels.

⚠️ Costs of accommodation, food and drink are rising in Croatia since the introduction of the Euro.

🚎 Transfers

🚍There is a direct bus from Split Airport to Ciovo via line 37 bus.

🚖 Taxis cost around 10-13 Euros.

🚗We hired a car for the duration of the holiday, which we collected and dropped off at the airport, booked with www.rentalcars.com.

Our friends who joined us didn’t rent a car and they found taxis to be an easy and affordable way to get around. We also travelled by bus and taxi while in Split.

About Okrug Gornji

Okrug Gornji is situated on the beautiful island of Ciovo and is surrounded by pebbled beaches and clear waters.

🌟Tip: All beaches around Split have pebbles or gravel so we recommend purchasing rock shoes.

There is a bridge that connects Ciovo to the mainland. We drove to the mainland to shop at the supermarket as there are only small local shops on the island.

🏖️ Okrug Gornji bay surrounds a stretch of beach and it is great for swimming and snorkelling. There is also an inflatable aqua park for children. We found a gorgeous tiny beach close to our accommodation too.

🍽️Okrug Gornji is quiet and peaceful There are a number of lovely restaurants dotted around and a few small grocers and market stalls selling food. There isn’t much of a nightlife.

🛥️It is close to Okrug Donji and a water taxi or bus can take you to the nearby lively town of Trogir too.

We booked the ‘Three island and Blue Lagoon’ boat trip with ‘Get Your Guide’ that took us to 3 different islands and the Blue Lagoon.

Krka National Park

Krka National Park covers 142 square km of natural beauty. The landscape is stunning and it has the most incredible waterfalls, including the famous Skrdinski Buk falls.

There are walking trails and boat trips down the river.

People were allowed to swim in the water a few years ago but entering the water has been prohibited since. It is definitely still worth the trip to see this awe inspiring area.

We drove ourselves but there are many organised trips available too, which you can book on sites like ‘Klook’, ‘Viator’ and ‘Get Your Guide’.

About Split

Split is a beautiful, ancient and vibrant city next to the coast. It is the second largest city in Croatia made up of a huge port, promenade, an amazing Old Town with a Diocletian Palace and a large new town.

The huge Diocletian’s Palace covers almost half of Old Split. It was built in the name of the Diocletian Roman emperor.

We thoroughly enjoyed the city part of our holiday. There is lots to see in Split including ancient architecture, beaches, restaurants and nightlife.

🏖️Split Beaches

In Split, there is a city beach called Bacvice Beach, which we found was packed and not very nice.

You can take a bus or taxi to Marjan where there is a beautiful beach.

🌟 Tip: Here you can climb the hill in the evening to watch the sun set.
